THE ANOINTING

In the world people run by strength, skills and ability but in the Kingdom of God, we live by the ANOINTING. That is why you do not necessarily have to be the best to be the head, the lord deliberately ordained to use the base things of this world to confound the wise.

The ANOINTING is an advantage but before becoming an advantage starts as a relationship. It starts as a communion, fellowship and grows into an advantage that flows from the anointing (UNCTION, HOLY SPIRIT) to the ANOINTED.

It takes very keen care to review this topic before writing on it. You can’t effectively pass on information about the anointing theoretically, meaning it takes anointing to describe the anointing.

But ye have an UNCTION from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
1 John 2:20 KJV

The best physical description of the Holy ghost that John managed to give at the baptism of Christ. He is not a dove but descended as a dove on Christ John 1:32

The anointing can be initiated physically by the pouring of oil and it can happen with no physical drop of oil.

Anointing appeared in the Bible for the first time when the lord was talking about the items used in preparing the oil (Hebrew: שמן המשחה shemen ha-mishchah, “oil of anointing”)

Pure myrrh, Sweet cinnamon, fragrant cane, Cassia , olive oil. These were items used in making the physical oil poured on priesthood and High priests to separate them unto a divine task. It is a physical process that leads to supernatural consecration. The bearer of this privilege in the early days who didn’t take enough caution were killed supernaturally Leveticus 10:1-11.

Nadab and Abihu killed by a strange fire from the lord following offering a strange incense against the code of conduct.

They were ordained using a physical oil unto a divine assignment. One would have thought the assignment was physical as well, but when they contravened the code of conduct, a fire not initiated physically came down and consumed them. The fear of this office became real when the lord instructed Aaron their father not to mourn Nadab and Abihu who were killed because of misuse of an office initiated by the anointing. He was to continue the service without a tear dropping from his eyes.

The anointing is fearful and terrible, although the oil was made with palpable items, the office is not what can be handled with a trivial mindset.

The lord chose Samuel earlier in place of the generation of priests and High priests ( Hophni, Phineas, their father Eli). He was anointed not with a physical oil but a divine UNCTION 1 Samuel 3:1-15. Samuel judged Israel for over forty years, it was said according to the scriptures that not one of his words fell to the ground. He led with prophetic unction and wisdom offering Israel privilege to spiritual accuracy.

When the people of Israel clamoured for a king like all other nations of the earth, 1 Samuel 8:4-22, he wasn’t to be selected by politics or other means. The lord who was their King made mention of the fact that they haven’t rejected Samuel but him and directed that Samuel ANOINTED a king for them. So in kingship, choice is by no other means than anointing.

Samuel anoints Saul king of Israel

Also, in fashioning the tabernacle of God, ark of covenant and the mercy seat, with all other equipments needed in spiritual services, the lord said in Exodus 31: 1-11 that he has filled Bezaleel with his spirit, wisdom, knowledge and understanding in all manners of workmanship.

So, for acts and arts that may be considered merely physical, the lord had to anoint him with his spirit. He did in such a way as to use an untrained, uneducated man in doing things that are sufficient to wow the world. After he made the tabernacle, the cloud of glory filled the tabernacle of the lord Exodus 40:34. The Bible further stated that the terror of Israel was upon all nations as they journeyed, Joshua 2:9.

There are many other instances in the Bible of the anointing. The most important is of our Lord Jesus, the Christ (ANOINTED). All through the Bible, there was no time he was physically anointed but at the river Jordan, John gave the account (John 1:32-33) of seeing the spirit descending like a dove and abode upon him.

Bible spoke of Barnabas and Saul separated by the UNCTION of the Holy spirit during sessions of worship, prayer and fasting. They were not appointed by a physical oil but the power of the Holy spirit.

Why have we come this far in the study?

THE ANOINTING is a supernatural consecration for exploits, men have lived and are still living on a daily basis by obeying detailed instructions of the Holy spirit who is the mystery behind every wonder we see physically Isaiah 45:15.

The BIG GOD hiding in small men to ensure great things are done for all to see.

ERRORS ABOUT THE ANOINTING

The oil minus the spirit is just another kitchen or cosmetic tool.

Of a truth, James 4:14-15 encourages to anoint with oil but note that some key factors were mentioned in the verses. 1. Elders of the church 2. Prayer 3. In the name of the lord.

The verses concluded by two further important things, THE PRAYER OF FAITH and THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS. In the sixteenth verse it says: the effectual fervent prayers of the righteous availeth much.

Which would we call the most important of all these? It is the PRAYER OF FAITH. Before a prayer can be considered of faith, the words said must be from a pure heart of an elder and it should be said in the name of the lord believing that healing is possible. Then the anointing can be effective. So it takes more than the ANOINTING oil.

People have been cajoled with the ANOINTING oil and have had to buy a very cheap one at expensive prices because they want healing. Many think that until they are called into ministry by the pouring of oil, their ministries are not sealed yet, so they strive or organise an ordination to prove their ministry.

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Even our lord Jesus never had a physical oil poured on his head, yet generations strive to do greater works than he did in just over three years. This error has shifted the focus of men from the holy spirit to the holy oil that becomes mere vegetable and cosmetic without the Holy spirit breathing on men and living within them.

CODE OF CONDUCT OF THE ANOINTING

While it’s an honour to bear the oil of the lord, many have borne it unto destruction.

There needs to be an agreement between the anointing and the anointed for him or her to operate effectively. We have general codes of conduct and there are specific or individual.

A. The general codes are applicable to everybody bearing the anointing. Meaning, everyone carrying the oil must live by them in order to keep the oil continuously flowing. Any breach in the laid down principles will halt the flow and make the ANOINTED appear as though there’s no power.

B. The specific ones are solely for individuals bearing the anointing. Some at birth had specific instructions about their names, their lifestyles and associations. Sometimes the specific can come up in the process of carrying out a task. If we all remember the story of that young prophet who the lord told not to eat anything while he was going on an assignment. An old prophet deceived him and he ate, while returning, a wild animal came and devoured him. Simply because he contravened an update of his code of conduct ( it can be updated with tasks and growth in order to ensure discipline for specific anointing).

We earlier saw of Nadab and Abihu who offered a strange incense and died mysteriously. There are many examples of men who have breached the code of conduct of the ANOINTING. The consequences they faced were very grievous.

What are the examples of the general code of conduct?

1. Hebrews 1:9 Psalm 45:7

Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
Hebrews 1:9 KJV
https://bible.com/bible/1/heb.1.9.KJV

The reason for the anointing to come to place in the first place was righteousness and hatred for wickedness. If this is compromised, it’ll not only deplete the anointing but expose the anointed to many attacks.

2. Isaiah 42:8

I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
Isaiah 42:8 KJV
https://bible.com/bible/1/isa.42.8.KJV

The lord does not share his glory with any man. Although a man may be called ANOINTED, he still remains a man. For as long as Christ remained a man, he never attributed the glory of God to himself. Philippians 2:5 says of the mind that was in Christ Jesus. Though he was God, he didn’t fail to give glory to the God who made the heavens and the earth for as long as he remained in the human body. Many have because of this humility argued the God nature of Christ, but by and by we will discover the true image if we don’t fail to make paradise. But it’s better to believe because without faith in Jesus, there is no paradise. Hebrews 11:6.

Furthermore about the glory, Numbers 20:12. Moses lost out on victoriously matching to the land of promise because he did not sanctify (glorify) the name of the lord.

EXAMPLES OF INDIVIDUAL CODE OF CONDUCT

SAMSON, one of the most anointed men ever, our lord Jesus Christ had a structure for effectiveness of ministry and perpetuation of impact, he chose twelve to be with him that he may SEND THEM. Mark 3:14. Samson didn’t have a disciple, he was a one man army. As a single man battalion, he terrorised nations. He fought to the fulfillment of his destiny such that he killed more enemies at his death compared to when he was alive. But Samson had a negative reputation that perhaps led to the early exit, he broke the code of conduct.

An angel came to announce his arrival, gave specific instructions to his mother

For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.
Judges 13:5 KJV
https://bible.com/bible/1/jdg.13.5.KJV

The rest of the story of his life was when he laid on the head of Delilah. A razor indeed touched his head and a quick end came to his ministry although with many victories at his death.

TO BE CONTINUED

Anointing is solely for those who have chosen a path to be with Jesus. There was a man in the scriptures who wasn’t a Jew but chose a path to rebuild the temple of the lord, his name was Cyrus. Isaiah 45:1-5. Twice the lord said he has chosen him and emphasised that but you have not known me.

The lord may have a plan for you to be an integral part of his plan, but that doesn’t exclude your knowledge of him and the only way to know him is by being in him and him in you John 15. So I encourage you to come to the lord today as tomorrow may not be another day for you. Tomorrow might just be the beginning of your eternity. What joy to start eternity with Jesus.

If you want to give your life to Christ today, say this prayer:

Lord Jesus, I love you, forgive me my sins, live in me and I’ll live in you. Amen.

If you’re an abuser of the anointing, it’s time to return before the codes are reviewed. It’s time to check yourself within and without to be sure you’ll not be deleted from the list of the ANOINTED. If you’re willing to develop the ANOINTING, I welcome you to a relationship with the Holy spirit where you abandon all fleshly lusts and embrace the cross. Say these prayers:

Lord I come just I am, forgive all my sins, pardon all faults. May I be reunited with your spirit once again. Amen
